Does everyone that has RNY come home with a drain tube or is it just when you have the open surgery?

I had a lap RNY last week and didn't have a drain tube.

I had one. It's a bit more sore over on that side but it'd out now and its healing great if you are worried about pain with it being taken out...don't it don't hurt at all.

I had a drain tube in the hospital, but they took it out before I went home.

Hurt like hell when they yanked it out!

I had lap RNY and no drain tube! yay.
I had no issues post op with healing and very little pain or discomfort.

My Dr leaves a drain in for 2 weeks. Mine comes out on the 6th.

lap rny for me, no drain tubes. some drs do and some don't i guess.

I was sent homme with one for 2 days and mine was laproscopic. my son has the same surgery with the same Dr and he had his pulled before he left the hospital.

I had 2 drains. One came out the day after surgery. The second drain came out the day I was released.

Mine was lap and I had a drain for 6wks but I also had a huge hematoma that was drained surgically so that made it a bit beyond the routine.

So I'm guessing this would be a good thing to ask my surgeon so I'll know what to expect. Thanks everyone!

I HAD THE SLEEVE AND A DRAIN FOR 2 WEEKS AFTER SURGERY. IT WASN'T THAT BAD BUT A REALLY FUNNY FEELING WHEN ITS PULLED OUT.

I haven't had WLS yet but I did ask the surgeons at one of my group support meetings if they do use drains and they said no for sleeve, lap and RYN. After reading on here people had drains ans sent home with them, I had to ask my program. I am glad my program doesn't use them. They said many times the drains end up causing an infection so they don't use them.
