Hm.. where to start?
Well, y'all know how we eat as WLS patients. But my Italian boyfriend eats like a horse and never gains an ounce, and still wants to go out to eat all the time. He is always asking me if he can treat me to a restaurant and gets aggravated when I say no. I simply don't WANT to go out to eat, what can I say?
One place in particular that used to be our old haunt, called Papa B's, serves free beer and is a wing place, almost everything on the menu is fried and fatty and bad for me, and I have no desire to go there, or anywhere else really.
When we go, I get stuck sitting there for an hour and a half while he guzzles the free beer and eats a ton of crap - it's no wonder I don't want to go. Once in a while I say yes just to get him to stop bugging me about it, even though I really don't want to. I usually order fried fish (because they don't have grilled fish) or grilled chicken salad (but not often because their chicken is VERY dry) and I don't like wings (their wings are very dry too, so not pouch friendly).
Thing is, I'm getting REALLY tired of him asking me if I'll go there and eat because I don't want to at all. I really don't like even going to restaurants anymore.
My new eating lifestyle is putting a bit of a strain on our relationship, because he wants to go out all the time, doesn't like to cook, and won't eat if I cook something healthy.. his idea of healthy is fish sticks and french fries, so if I do cook, I have to do 2 separate meals for 2 people, so I don't offer to cook very often, and he gets pissy with me if I say I'm just going to have yogurt or something small and healthy for dinner and not make him something. He's a big boy and I'm not his mama.
He's weird about eating a separate meal without me and won't go out to eat by himself or with a friend, he always wants me to be there with him. It's a pain in the ass for me.
I don't even know what the point to this post is except that he just called me and asked me if he could take me to Papa B's tonight and when I said I didn't want to go there I got the attitude and the heavy sigh and the put out voice.
So yeah.. that's all I have. Just venting, I guess. I know what my options are, but it boils down to what I want to do, and what effect my decision is going to have. Guess I'm going to have to break down and say yes one of these days, but I'm really dreading it.

As a trump card, we make great designated drivers when we do go out.

That sounds like my husband who still doesnt get that I am only 3 weeks out of surgery....lol Him and my mom try to feed me key lime pie when I was discharged from the hospital (bless their heart...lol) I dont act like patient but for months now I have made this a lifestyle change.
Communication is key. If you dont talk to him about your decision how is he expected to know how you are feeling?
A lot of restaurants now a day post their nutritional values online. If he wants to spend time with you in that manner maybe suggest something other than that restaurant that is "lifestyle changing friendly." You dont want to shut him out either when he's making an effort to spend time with you.
Do you think you can grab something before you go? That way you can spend time with him without the temptation of other foods.
Last weekend my husband took me to Buffalo Wild Wings to see the Chicago Bears get their asses handed to them...lol I ate before hand and I had the waitress give me a glass of water w/ a splash of cranberry juice (just to give it some color) and a lime wedge and no one knew I wasnt partaking in the festivities.
Get creative and have fun. It seems like you have a good man who actually wants to spend time with you doll.

Josie, part of the problem is that he wants to go for HIM. The only reason he offers to treat is that I always tell him I wouldn't have suggested going to eat there so he knows I'm not going to buy. lol We never really talk much, he's not much of a communicator, but he does know that I am always looking for something on the healthier side that I can eat, when he wants to go here its just because he's 'thirsty'.
Maybe I'll just offer to cook him spaghetti instead, that'll make him happy for a while. lol
