Sarge, I'm over 5 years out and still basically eat stage 4. I've come to the conclusion that's the way most people who maintain within their healthy target range eat (aside from the very few who have to eat almost everything just to keep from losing more weight).
I'm surprised you doctor said diet pop was okay. Aside from the carbonation issue, studies suggest artificial sweeteners increase carb cravings and change how bodies handle insulin. I didn't put much stock in the research until I started using sugar-free syrup in my protein shakes - and got a case of the munchies like I hadn't experienced since before my RNY. I don't know if artificial sweeteners trigger hunger for everyone, but I know they do for me. Just something to be aware of.
Wow! That's a lot of stairs!
Wishing you a speedy journey to the healthiest version of you!
