Ugh, ugh, and UGH!!!!!!!!
Just when I thought I had things under control, I backslid like crazy. This Saturday is my six-month surgiversary. Last I checked, I was down 75 lbs or so. My pants are getting loose in the thighs and I enjoyed wearing a slinky gown to a formal event last weekend. I've also been enjoying menopause, as that combined with the shock of surgery caused my cycles to stop for a while; last one was early January.
Fast forward to today...
Woke up and who should pay me a huge visit? Auntie Flo--and I did NOT invite her over! With that came something i'd completely forgotten about: carb cravings. Oh, my freakin' God. Today was hard.
I'd baked two blueberry coffee cakes to take to school today as a treat for the students (I am this high school's choir accompanist and our last day of school is tomorrow). Some of the batter dripped onto the counter as I scraped it into the pans. Reflexively and definitely without thinking, I stuck my finger in it and licked it! Then, when the coffee cake was done, I tasted a sliver to make sure it was good (it was a new recipe). It was. It was so good, though, that by the end of the day I'd had three pieces and was wondering why I was feeling like crap and needed to take a nap at 3 PM.
And then the dumping started. I hadn't felt this sick in months.
So, what did I learn from all this?
1--I have to have a back-up plan to combat those carb cravings, such as eating more protein for breakfast to keep me full, for one thing! (today I didn't)
2--Don't ever lose sight of my water bottle.
3--The treadmill is always there for me. Walk on it instead of answering the creepy calling of the carbs.
4--Look at my "Before" pictures and remind myself how far I've come.
5--Stop everything at that precise moment and LISTEN to my body. What was it telling me today? It was telling me that it needed carbs like I needed crack. I didn't feel this way yesterday, but that's because I didn't have my cycle yesterday. So frustrating!
6--Tomorrow is another chance to do better. I intend to take it.

I wish you the best today and I hope Aunt Flo leaves for good. I was 8 months without her then she showed up 1 month before surgery. I'd like to buy her a one way ticket to the moon.
It's OK, you saw it, you're planning ahead for next time, and just like quitting cigarettes, alcohol, whatever, you know that that first one starts the crazy cycle again. This is how we learn, and you have more armor and training against the next temptation.

Now I'm making a Greek salad to take to a potluck retirement party tonight. It will have romaine lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes and feta cheese, as well as a drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette dressing. I LOVE LOVE LOVE tomatoes, so hopefully munching on them will do the trick for me today.
And as for Auntie Flo? Well, I can look on the bright side. I don't need to wear plus-size pads anymore! LOL
This morning I had a nice protein drink. Like Diva, I am done with this nonsense we all know what we should and shouldn't do. Today is a new day yesterday is gone, can't be changed but a learning experience. I also threw out the left over bread. The only thing I didn't do was DUMP. Have a great day you'll.
