Just wondering if anyone after surgery got more depression instead of less. i had the gastric on the 12th of July but it all went bad , fell apart, I got another surgery and had a huge infection, peritonitis. And than almost died with the pneumonia and collapsed lung. I was in the hospital a very long time, ICU alone three weeks. Any how through this i got more depressed and VERY MOODY! The doctor finally put me on some mood stabilizers. Anyone else have this problem? Don't want to feel so alone in this...

You've had to deal with w-a-y more than you should have. I am so sorry. I am glad you have talked to your doc about this, but if it continues please contact him again. Depression is not to be ignored. It is serious.
I hope you have a support system. I will pray for you.

Wow you really had to go through a lot I feel so bad for you but it sounds like you are on the mend. I got very depressed the 1st week after surgery but that did go away. I hope everything works out for you and please let you Dr. know how you are feeling.

Please Please Please don't feel alone. I was on anti-depressants for 10 years before my surgery but after my anxiety went through the rough and I was intensely moody. I'm about 5 weeks out and I'm still struggling with anxiety and depression and moodiness. I'm lucky to have a very understanding husband, but I did have to explain to him that I might need him to cut me a little slack. You may want to look into counseling and or seeing a psychiatrist who will specifically be able to cater to your needs. I was lucky enough to find a therapist who deals with mostly post GBS patients. Hang in there, long hot showers and a cup of hot green tea are two little things that go a long way for me. Also, personally I love hanging out with my dog (I know that animals are for everyone, but they are proven to help depression. Keep us updated!(

It is perfectly normal to go through some type of depression after a life changing experience like major surgery such as this.

I am worried about mine because I already suffer from depression. I went off my meds almost 2 years ago, so I am trying to stay upbeat and positive about this upcoming change in my life. Your experience gives you every reason to have fallen into a depression. Its time to take a deep breath and embrace the wonderful future that is waiting for you. If you find that you cant climb out of that dark hole, please seek medical attention. Sometimes, a few months of medication is all that is needed to get you back in balance.

I think with all you went through and all the meds im sure you were on, its normal to get discouraged as they come out of your system. Give yourself time and try your best to stay focused on the bigger picture... Your amazing health! From the sounds of it, your on your way to all this being in the past, so just keep truckin forward....

You will do fine, just give yourself time and this next year this will all be nothing but a small memory...
