Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
I am sober now (15years) and in the course of recovery in AA, I learned that I eat and drink to fill up a hole in my soul. There was an emptiness, an unhappiness within me. And I tried to cover-up the unhappiness, fill the emptiness with alcohol, food and sex. And none of that worked.
The only way to get rid of the emptiness and unhappiness is to dig down to the source and then work to rid myself of what caused the unhappiness.
I suspect that your surgery addressed one of the symptoms of your unhappiness, but not the source. That is why you still try to get rid on the unhappiness and have turned to alcohol. As you have discovered, alcohol doesn't solve any problems, and adds more problems to the pile.
I suggest that you consider a recovery program that will help you address the source of your unhappiness and resolve to put an end to it, rather than drown it out with alcohol.
