I every wonderful person here. It's been a while since I've logged in after my Gastric Sleeve surgery in July (6 ish weeks ago). First off I have to say that although I'm not logged in, I think of words of wisdom from you all that have been critical in this journey.
My question is that I'm having issues with getting my medication taken. I know that I have to crush them and I can do that, but the taste is awful and I have a few meds that are available in liquid form. So my question is, does anyone have things that have helped or worked with getting the crushed meds taken without having to endure that awful taste?

I add my crushed meds to apple juice. It still tastes bad; but it's bearable... Hope that helps!

I used unsweetened apple sauce. I put a pack of nutra sweet in it. Still tastes like crap but you can swaller it. Best I could figure out.

Yep, what Ed said... Applesauce (sugar free)... also yogurt worked too. They still don't taste good, but not near as bad without anything! :) By the way... good to see you! :) Oh, and by 2 weeks out from surgery I was cleared to just take them the regular way...

I had to use unsweetened apple sauce for a while as well... One tspn worked just fine... I didn't even have to crush them, they just slid down with the applesauce...

Are you sure you have to crush them? I was an RNY and took my pills whole from day 1

hi glad you checked in........actually took my meds right after surgery in whole form.........most of mine can not be crushed opened or mutilated in any way....lol .....then when I started having issues with everything my docs tried liquid but I did not tolerate so they simply broke the dosages down.....like I have one med I take 200 mg they made it a 100 mg and take 2 ..........then I spread the pills out during the am /pm it is a pain but it stays down so I make it work.

I have also been able to take pills from the beginning. RNY 6-18 Check with your doc and see if you still need to crush them. Good Luck.

My dr said I only had to crush mine for the first couple of weeks as long as they are not larger than the diameter of a pencil. If they are too big they can be cut in half. Chewable a work great until later

I had to crush them for 2 or 3 weeks after surgery I don't remember. Then I could take them whole after that.

Agree with the apple sauce! It always tasted bitter but I was able to get them down. Eventually you will love just being able to swallow the medication -- it's those little things in life that makes us happy :)

You guys are so terrific, I'm trying the applesauce and the sf chocolate pudding and will ask my doctor if I can take them whole yet, they are small (like the diameter of a pencil) so I'm hoping I can take them whole soon.
Things are going great and I'm so glad I went through with the surgery. Thanks again for the input everyone. I guess it's about time to post some new pics too.

I take over 20 medications a day, besides my vitamens and they started me right back on them while I was still in the hospital. I have to take one at a time, as opposed to downing them all in one gulp, which I use to do, but, I am able to manage this unless I have eaten prior to trying to take my nighttime meds. then it is a bit harder to get them down, I have to then wait till I have room for them.
