Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
I am not sure if you Doc told you to expect a plateau or not or that you can expect to loose 70% of you excess weight in the two years following the surgery, but these are what the statistics suggest happens to the majority of us. You are right at the 70% now. After you hit that number, the weight loss is more difficult. It is like trying to loose pre surgery. Actually even harder because your body has adjusted to the fact that you are consuming a lot less calories a day and exercising a bunch more. So, here is my suggestion based on conversations with a personal trainer. Start eating more normally. Try not to count calories a while and let you body adjust to a calorie level higher than starvation level. At the same time, mix up your exercise routine and do something different. if you are walking, consider a circuit training or weight lifting routine or even areobics, but do something different. After a couple more mos of doing this, start to decrease calories again and my bet is that you will start loosing again. It is all about changing the bodies perception of what is happeneing to it. When we are literally starving, our body works at conserving energy. My guess is that you are there. Your body has adapted so now you have to trick it out of its stasis. Good luck and hang in there. it will start working again.
Also, I did ok but this past year I've gotten sick alot. The thinner i've been the worse it's been. I think it's our bodies healing and trying to recover. Also, I lost my last stubborn 30ish by developing an ulcer, not that I recommend it, but it helped me. Keep workiing hard.
