Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
I am two years post op and I never dreamed that I would be large enough to need to have weight loss surgery. I was always a yo-yo dieter. I had the same feelings as you the what if I could loose it on my own? I lost 90 pounds in 9 months. I know that if I did not have the surgery I would still be a size 18-20. I would still not be able to keep up with my kids or have the confidence that I now have. It is a scary thought but it is a life changing surgery. I do not regret my decision as it is one of the best ones I have ever made. Keep you head up , we are all here for support! :)
I was taught in the seminar before my RNY that once a person reaches a certain point in weight that our metabolism changes and it becomes impossible to lose and keep it off by just exercise and diet.
I too lost a great deal of weight several times by diets, starvation. But it came right back!
The RNY in my case gave me the chance to finally control my weight. I had surgery in 2012 and have never regretted it.
I WAS a type 2 diabetic. My diabetic doctor told me to do something about my weight or I had maybe 2 years left. My diabetes is GONE! That was why I chose the RNY. The diabetes was gone real soon.
The yo-yo dieting just don't work.
Congrats on your decision to get healthy!
So happy I have all of you to talk to! :)
Finally I decided that I had reached the end of the line and I had to do something or I was destined to have an early death. I am 1 year post-op at age 59 and have never felt better. Best decision I ever made and my only regret is that I didn't do it earlier in life. Even soon after the surgery I was embarrassed and didn't want to tell people. But now I tell anyone and everyone and I'm proud of my journey.
Best of luck to you !
You're fighting some real health issues already, and WLS is a great tool to help lose the weight to help your body get better. It is only a tool, but for me, it was a great one. I had the sleeve 4.5 years ago, lost 125 lbs. and have kept it off ever since.
My back and legs are much better without hauling an extra person around on them.
Your feelings are completely normal, but don't let nerves and fear keep you from choosing your best chance for help, what ever that is.
The majority of us had conflicting feelings. That's perfectly normal. I will say the the majority of us also wish we had the surgery done sooner than we did.
I wish you all the best!
