We all been warned that we are prone to have alcohol issues after surgery. I have always contended that I couldn't see any difference in its effects after surgery.

Alcohol is insidious. Due to job stresses I began drinking a few beers to get to sleep. I noticed recently that it was becoming a compulsion and I was losing control of the amount I was drinking

I am now a non drinker. I hope to get control of the few pounds I gained this summer too.

Good for you Sarge. It's a big step, but after a little while, I bet you feel better, and with the amount of carbs in beer, you'll probably get away from the head hunger they cause.
I don't drink beer often, but I notice a couple of beers at a cookout really trigger my carb cravings for several days.

Kudos for paying attention to what's going on, stepping up and addressing it. My ex was an alcoholic, along with other addictions, and I understand the sooner you step away from compulsive/addictive behaviors, the likelier the recovery. Stay well my friend.

I have a lot of admiration for anybody who can take a step back, evaluate things and make changes for the better even when it's hard (kind of like what we all did with weight loss surgery to begin with right?) Good for you!

You'll be rid of those few pounds in no time without all the extra calories from those beers! Alcohol before bed is definitely insidious. I can relate. I now take L-carnatine before bed and Midnight which has melatonin in it. L-carnatine is in turkeys which is partly why people want naps after thanksgiving dinner. Journaling before bed also helps to get the thoughts of today and tomorrow's todo's out of my head. I found having some kind of nighttime winding down ritual helps me to destress from the day and sleep better. Good for you for taking back control!

I also had to stop drinking since we are keeping it real. I also transferred my food addiction to alcohol but thank God I recently stopped it. I came way to far to gain back the weight I loss and go back to the old me. I start tracking everything I eat and when I saw that a 24oz can of Mikes Sweet Tea was 440 calories I was flabergasted. I could drink about 3 or those a day and that was more calories than what I ate no wonder the pounds was creeping up again, so for now on nothing for me but good old h2o.

Transfer addiction scares me. In my family tree I have many relatives, including a sibling and a parent, who have been addicted to many different things ranging from alcohol to cocaine to tobacco to pain killers to sex. How do I go about making sure I don't start on that path???
