Chris Christie has lapband surgery

New Jersey's governor has announced that in February he had lap band surgery. For those of you who are not familiar with him he is a pretty big guy and has been subject to a lot of criticism about his weight and how it affects his health and his political career. He is currently running for reelection and there has been a lot of speculation about a presidential run in 2016. I am sure that his decision to have WLS will really bring it into the spotlight, hopefully not in a negative way! Here is a link to an article on cnn.com

Thank you for sharing!! I truly hope that having more people in the news having surgery for wt loss will help shine some light on it all, and in a positive way of course!

I remember the whole flap about him with the former White House doctor back when I was newly post-op. And my thought was--he should have weight loss surgery. I'm glad he did it though I'm not a big fan of the lap-band. I saw a quote from him today from last July where he said that GBS was too risky. Well worth it to me! Also saw that he had it on a Saturday and was back at work the next Tuesday.

it could be that they did the lapband to get him down to a safer weight so they can do gastric bypass...ive seen thats what most lap band procedures are used for these days because its not as effective as bypass...just a thought

I think that someone so high profile having any type of WLS should make it more "acceptable" to people. I am surprised at how many people still have such a negative view of WLS, it truly is a life saver for many, me included!

Good for him... I remember how badly he was ridiculed... I hope it helps him and he doesnt have any of the bad things that the lap band is supposedly causing... My doc won't even perform the lap band anymore...

I originally heard the announcement on my local news radio station this morning while getting ready (I live just outside of Philadelphia) so we get all of the New Jersey news too. The radio announcer was like the lap band is less invasive and you don't get results as fast but produces better long term results. I don't believe that is true. I thought the lap band was least successful of the surgeries. I never considered lap band so I didn't really do any research on that option. But as usual news readers will just talk and not check their facts before reporting.

I wish him well and hope he is able to lose the weight.

I hope he has better luck with the Lap Band than I did, I did awesome, kept the weight off for 2 years and then I got a hiatial hernia, which made my band slip. So they had to pull out all the water.

With the Lap Band you still feel hungry all the time, you can only eat a small portion due to the pouch at the top of the band but it doesn't take away the hunger. So usually if or when they remove the water you can eat what you did prior to having the surgery. So I gained it all back once there was no longer the restriction.

My hope for Christie would be that he finds luck with his band, most people who get Lap Band need a revision. A lot of Docs are selling it by telling the patients its the healthier choice (I disagree, but to each his own opinion). Either way I am glad for Christie hopefully he can make it a success, and be healthier for himself and family and get the nasty Doc that wrote that nasty article about him a chance to eat some crow :D.
