Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.

I daily see people pre- op wondering if they are making the right choice.
I had RNY 12 weeks ago.
It was the best decision for me.
I was loosing my ability to be independant.
I was heading toward diabetes, and immobility.
I had been on HBP and Cholesterol meds for 11 years.
I had no bad back, no bad knees, no bad hips, no bad ankles, but I was having difficulty with stairs, stamina and was just feeling miserable.
12 weeks later, I jog up stairs with ease, I have no more hot flashes, I have so much energy I feel Joy!
I also suggest to everyone beginning this process, seek therapy. Get all the bad issues out of your head and mind and get mentally ready for surgery. I see a therapist once a week, I began a month before surgery and I still go faithfully, my therapist said to me the other day...."When you are no longer a patient of mine, I want you to help me decorate my house!" I guess she thinks I will be graduating from needing therapy soon.
What a gift. I used to feel good with food, now I feel great about the future! Food no longer has ahold of me. I have broken the addiction. It is so empowering. Food was the enemy.
Now I eat so I can live, I don't eat to live to eat!
Good luck to everyone comtemplating surgery, It is so freeing, and all the worry is gone. See you on the loosers bench soon!

Thank you Suzy for putting into perspective why we began this journey and what it takes to be successful in it. I go to therapy weekly as well. I need to overcome why I ate so much and made unhealthy choices. I know a few that had the surgery and weigh more now then before. its not the surgery that is the end all, but as so many say a "tool" the problem is most times mental and we need to seek help in that aspect. I find myself missing it by asking "what can I eat now?" instead of asking ~ what new healthy food should I began choosing now. I am a work in progress and it all began with surgery but there is so much more ... Thanks for sharing.

You really look wonderful. And it is great to hear that you are taking care of your self mentally too. I have started working on my mental issues now so I'll be ready next month for surgery. I hope I have as much success as you do!
