Morning everyone - I am up preparing for yet another dr's appointment this morning and I know that each one gets me closer to the day of my surgery and for that I am grateful. I know i might sound like a flake or a big ole baby but just what do the cardiologist do in terms of making sure you are okay. If you can't tell already, I am not a big fan of doctors, in fact I would say preparing for this surgery is the most I have seen of them all my life. I just want some idea before I head out to see this one of what it is that they do. I've had ekg's etc. before, i guess i am concerned about what they are looking for and praying that everything goes well so that NOTHING prevents this surgery. Okay meltdown over, going to shower so I can be on time.

Depends on what procedure was order for you. I was required to have a echocardiogram and a neuclear stress test. The echo is non invasive all you do lie still on a table and a tech scans your chest area. The neuclear stress test is done in 2 parts you are hooked up to leads, inoculated with a chemical that causes you heart rate to rise that simulates moderate exercise, and your heart rate and response is monitered and recorded. Part 2 is that you are inoculated with a neulear substance and place on a table/scan which maps a picture of the various components of the heart and surrounding blood vessels. Neither one was difficult to endure. Good luck. d

Mine just did a normal stress test walking hard and fast on the treadmill while hooked up to the monitors.

Thanks for responding slvrstega I appreciate the input. All my referral says is cardiologist for morbid obesity - gotta love it. I'll be so glad when those words are referring to someone, any one other than me.

Oh geez @ lovetoquilt - If i could walk hard and fast I wouldn't need the surgery. This is not going to be good if thats what I'm up against. LOL, trying not to panic and keep my sense of humor.

I never had to go to a cardiologist. I just had to go to an outpatient lab an have an EKG done.

Update: Okay I am back I just had a simple EKG today which lead to and ECHO and a Nuclear appointment - so thats two additional appointments added to my already booked schedule. I believe my history of heart attacks in the family lead the doctor to order these test - that coupled with the chest pains i periodically experience which is usually brought on by anixiety. But he said he wants to make sure even though he questioned whether my father at 39 truly died from a massive heart attack and my 18 year old cousin on my dads side. He said there had to be other underlying reasons for both heart attacks, well since daddy didn't raise me, and i was more or less 16 at the time, if there was i can't recall. Aall i know is what the death certificates said. The echocariogram is scheduled for the 23 and they can't do the necular unto those results are in which looks like I'm going into February still doing pre-ops. A little annoyed but i'd rather be safe than sorry. Blessings to all.
