Hi all!
I just joined this group after looking online for a good bariatric support group. I'm PianoDiva and am set for gastric bypass surgery on November 2nd, which to me is now my ReBirthday.
I'm excited at the prospect of finally being able to take back my health and my life, but scared to death at the sheer magnitude of changes this will entail. I'm going to assume that these feelings are a normal part of the process, but what makes it tougher for me is that I lost my mother three months ago (I was already well underway with the pre-surgery process by then) and don't have her, my biggest supporter, anymore. That hurts, but I know she'd be so happy to see that I'm finally going through with this.
Anyway, what else to tell you all? I've been happily married for twenty years, have two children (ages 16 and almost 13), have a dog, cat and nine chickens, and make my living as a musician. I like to sew, crochet, embroider, bake and cook (may need to replace those hobbies now), tap/ballroom dance, entertain, spend time with family and friends, and make people laugh. I'm 5'2 and 262 lbs, and suffer from several comorbidities associated with morbid obesity. The most ironic thing about this entire process was a couple of years ago when I was on our former health insurance plan, and they actually denied my request for WLS because--get this--my BMI wasn't high enough!!! The least they could have done was send a cheesecake along with the rejection letter, since they require a higher BMI (at the time mine was 45; now it's around 47, I think)!
Looking forward to learning more and getting the support I know I'm going to need, and it's wonderful to know I'm not alone in this journey.

I went and bought four different kinds of protein supplements today, some flavored, some not, to experiment with. Also bought a bunch of 4-oz plastic containers so I can start making soups and purees now, freezing them for later.
It's getting real now.
