I haven't had to give myself an injection of blood thinners in about a week or so, but I found that one site where I did give myself an injection is semi numb. I've had a horrible bruise there for a couple of weeks.

I think that is pretty normal. I was in the hospital for a very long time due to comps from surgery and I had them longer than other people, but I noticed different places they would poke me would go numb.

I only had then while I was in the hospital, but one place they stuck it gave me problems for a few days, they think the needle might have hit a nerve!

I still have bruises (one month out) where my injection spots were. They're small, but still visible. My mom's lasted a long time, but her whole lower belly was black and blue, only my injection spots were. I only had them in the hospital.

I had to give myself injections for about 3 weeks post op. This one site seems to have only recently gotten numb, which is what concerns me. Either that, or I'm just starting to get feeling back since the area started to itch last night. I didn't think anything of it until I went to scratch and noticed the numbness. Kinda annoying.

Lauren, I'd ask the doctor - just to be safe. The place where they injected in me was just above my c-section line which is numb already (that's why I suggested there, cuz I couldn't feel the needles for the heparin or the insulin :). It may be nothing, but always better to be safe.

They kept telling me that my stomach would turn black and blue from the Lovanox shots I had to give myself for 30 days post surgery. I gave the shots every day and never had the first bruise. I was actually worried I was doing something wrong. At almost a year out, my incisions still get itchy sometimes. I've been giving myself my own B-12 shots for about 9 months and have been pretty lucky with those too. If it just seems numb in the one spot, it's probably not a big deal, but if the numbness starts spreading, then definitely get it checked out. If you did hit a nerve, the feeling should return within a couple of weeks. Chances are if you damaged a nerve serverly, you'd notice it somewhere else on your body too. With me, they gave me a nurse practitioner's phone number to always call with any questions. Maybe if you have one, you can just give her a quick call and check in with her/him and let them know what's going on so they can document it and decide if anything needs to be done. Best wishes.
