Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
One week I may lose a lot, the next week not so much. I figure if we dowhat we need to do, everything else will fall into place! Keep up the good work, and live one day at a time!
Anyhow, if you had RNY then there is a malabsorption component that not only prevents absorption of some nutrients but also prevents absorption of fat and calories, so in that way it aids in weight loss.
Then there is the restrictive aspect, as you mentioned, that forces you to eat less and helps you feel full quicker.
Next, and I am not as clear on this component, but when the major portion of the stomach is bypassed the area that produces a hormone that makes you feel hungry is also bypassed...I think. So, you don't feel hungry as much. Now this is real hunger not head hunger.
And then finally, there is the dumping syndrome which prevents/deters you from eating too much of some of the wrong foods.
I highly recommend you do some more research so you more fully understand how your body works now. Knowledge is power. You can't take good care of yourself if you don't know what is good or bad for you.
I hope you feel better soon!
