I was told i could use these, but why on earth would i want to? but that is just me...It amazes me that even babies eat that stuff...mama said i wouldn't touch it, except for plums and peaches, and bananas...everything else she had to make herself...she said every spoon she put in my mouth would end up somewhere else..I was not and would not eat it...tells me not to even go there now...but yes...yes you can use baby foods..stage one or stage two...nothing chunky...

Great. I'm going to start investigating those now to see what, if any, I can tolerate. Maybe once my tastebuds change I will have a different outlook and taste for baby food. We shall see (and I hope sooner, rather than later).

My NUT said that these were an option for me too. I am purchasing a small babyfood grinder. I used one for my kids instead of baby food and it worked great. Although, I do think at some point a jar or two on the shelf would not be a bad idea given the challenge so many seem to face.

No. Regardless of nutritional value, I would not give baby food to a dog, let alone to a baby or recuperating surgery patient. Baby food... all baby food, natural or otherwise, tastes like its already been through the baby once or twice.

I love baby food :) Its been my breakfast for the last 3 months now lol. I used to get in trouble as a kid cuz Id steal my brother and sisters lol.
Mind you, JUST the fruits. You will drop dead from the smell of sausage or turkey or ugh!
The applesauce tastes the exact same as the normal stuff. And the peaches YUM! Gerber has yummy ones like kiwi strawberry and things like that now.
I still have quite a few stocked up in the fridge...Dunno what to do with them now that im on my pre op diet lol

Sure you could eat them, but I am with the others...why in the world world would you want to. I could gag just thinking about it. I got a 1 cup food chopper/processor for $7 at Target for my pureed stage and it worked great. Baby foos is just nasty...yes the fruits and deserts probably taste ok, but that is something you won't be needing postop. I suggest you make your own, then you know what is actually in it and you can season it up to your liking. :)

I went out and bought a bunch of baby food preop. Post op it all went to a friend who had a baby. The only stuff I could tolerate was the fruit and even that needed some splenda, cinnamin, apple pie spice, etc. I didn't eat it for long. The meat I just couldn't bring myself to eat.

Check out eggface's website. She has some wonderful tips on purreed foods and great recipes! I wish I had known about her when I first had surgery!!!

I also blenderized alot of my stuff in a bullet.

My surgeon told me NO baby food . . . too many carbs and sugars. YMMV

I bought some preop but ending up giving to a friend who had a baby. Seems it really isn't nutrionally that great. I was too busy working on getting my protein in that I didn't have any room for much fruit in the beginning...still only eat one (maybe 2) servings a day.

All good comments. Part of the WLS process is learning what and how to eat. Baby food is NOT made for adults - hence the word baby food. A food mill will break down any whole or cooked food into an easily manageable consistency. A potato masher or hand-held wand blender will get you the same results. If that is too much work, then eat things like no-sugar added applesauce, split pea soup, or mash up turkey chili really well with your spoon before every bite. BTW, I am getting my pregnant niece a food mill - nice to be ablel to go out with baby and not have to bring special food. Same goes for all of us.

Thank you for the advice and the information. I do have a blender and just cooked some real food and blended and strained it... After a clear liquid spell, this tastes wonderful!
