Hi,

I bought some Atkins Advantage Pre-mixed shakes today. I tried the Whey Protein mixed with skim milk.

So, once it's cold, I will try one. I'm trying to test things out, to see what I like.

Of course, after the fact, I read some older posts, and see that a lot of you like the Caramel flavored one, LOL!!

But, I am a chocolate lover, so thought i'd try this. It's Milk Chocolate Delight Shake.

I'll come back, and post my review later.

I found (after surgery) that I had to let my shakes sit over night to fully dissolve and not upset my new tummy. Just a little friendly advise for you to keep in mind after you have surgery.

Pre-surgery, I liked them all (except fruit favors...). Post-surgery, I found I couldn't stand the chocolate ones. I still like the vanilla and the mocha that they have. I haven't tried the caramel (they just started carrying that at my local store).

I like (before and after surgery) the Muscle Milk vanilla and chocolate. Still have some in the fridge. But I have discovered there are two different ones in Kroger. One in the pharmacy area and one with the sports drinks. The one in the pharmacy is MUCH less in carbs and is the one I use.

I found Atkins was too heavy for me so i watered it down. I preferred protein powders. Taste, texture, and smell changes after surgery. I liked Nectar before with water. After it was too sweet and I like Max Pro from Muscle Max. Many people like Walmart protein but again, it is too sweet for me

Ok, the chocolate delight was not bad at all!! IT may be a bit too chocolatley for me after surgery, who knows..but it's good cold, and i did enjoy it.

I liked it better than the protein powder mixed with skim milk.

Any others I should try???

I used Muscle Milk (light or 100, I can't remember) for a few months after surgery. Then I used EAS (again, light or 100). I did ok with each of them for awhile.

Now I mix Optimum Gold Standard Whey Protein - Extreme Milk Chocolate with Metabolic Nutrition's Protizyme - Peanut Butter Cookie...I mix it with water and lots of ice...it's a Reese's peanut butter cup in my mouth every morning!!

A word about the "too-sweet" stuff after surgery: don't throw it away! You can fix chocolate by adding just a little bit of instant coffee. It takes out the extra sweetness and if you do just a little you won't taste the coffee. For fruit-based flavors I used lemon juice or SF lemonade mix (little or a lot, taste as you add) and they toned down the sweetness. Like everyone says, your tastes may change after surgery so don't load up on your favorite pre-surgery flavors, just in case!

Also, if you buy protein powder you don't care for... You can always use it for baking (gluten free, low carb, of course!) later down the road. :)
