Went to my monthly support group this week. One of the gals shared that she is 8 months out and has stopped losing for the past 3 months. The first question the leader asked her was "Are you drinking before during and 30 minutes after your meals?" She said yes, that she has to drink w/ meals, she just cannot eat without drinking. According to MD's , RN's and support group leaders, the number one reason that RNY patients stop losing or start gaining is that they do not follow the rules regarding liquids--- no liquids 30 minutes prior to eating, during the meal and for 30 minutes after the meal!!! It physics- we have no pyloric valve to keep the solid food in and if we drink it just washed away. Not only causing us to feel hunger too soon but also washing away the food before our body can absorbs its nutrients.

The doctors set up the rules for a reason. The moral of the story: do what your doctor tells you to do and you'll be successful.
