I had my GBP 5/07 and lost 97lbs.It wasn't as much as they predicted or wanted me to lose,but I was satisfied. Although my weight gain was not due to a eating disorder or over eating,but from other health issues the surgery still helped me lose a lot of the extra weight.

Around early Spring I started gaining weight for no apparant reason.Even this far out I still can only eat about 4/5 bites before I'm full.There is no over eating or I get sick & it just plain hurts.I'm careful what I eat & do keep busy.Due to some of the other heath issues I can not exersize the standard ways,but I do stay active,so to start gaining weight naturally upset me and made no sense.

At my yearly physical bloodwork showed my Thyroid was quite low.After about 6 weeks on the thyroid med I started to lose some weight,felt more energenic,was sleeping better and was happy to have seemingly found the problem,but at around 3months on the new thryroid med I gained close to 20lbs in 3 weeks.The fastest weigh gain I've ever had except when pregnant. Blood tests show my thyroid levels are in normal range.Everything else is within normal range so naturally the Dr's accuse me of not being honest,over eating,eating wrong,etc. Because all bloodwork shows everything to be in normal range when I said I wanted to see a Endocrinologist my Dr refused.(I need a referral to see any specialist)

I have POCD,but had a full hysterectomy 13yrs ago and went thru menopause back then.My gyno says everything is fine in that area,but said to check my hormone levels was a waste of time since everything else shows things to be fine from my physical with the family Dr.

Something is wrong to be gaining weight like this even on thyroid meds yet they refuse to look any further to see why,instead preferring to blame me. I did not go through that surgery only to gain it back from eating wrong. I've gained 40's lbs back that I los from the surgery.I'm starting to have more bone pain & can not move around as easily as I could before gaining it back. I can not afford to keep going back to the Dr's or gyno.Our funds just do not allow it,but I'm so angry at the Dr's dismissing my concerns and blaming me for the weight gain.I swore I would never allow myself to gain that weight back & have been diligent about what and how I eat.

I know I'm venting more than asking questions,but naturally I'm quite upset & depressed about this so any suggestions are appreciated.

Don't let this thing go!! Keep after the doctors for answers. Gaining that much weight in that short of a time is not normal. Something is wrong. Get a second opinion. Research online. Unexplained weight gain is a signal that something is wrong. Don't give up!!

I agree that a second opinion is definitely needed - check with your insurance co. to see if they'll pay for this. Have you thought of changing your primary physician? Have you consulted a dietitian? Hang in there & try to get the answers you need to figure out what's going on with you. Good luck.

You mentioned talking to your gyno and pcp, but have you asked the surgeon who performed your WLS? He/she may be more receptive to your concerns.

I would put your concerns in writing, sending copies to both your pcp and your gyn. They have a harder time dismissing a written document + it gives you a chance to choose your words carefully. Sometimes in the dr's office I feel rushed or intimidated and don't state my case so well. I'll bet they will not ignore a written letter.

I agree with the other comments. Get a second opinion. Call your surgeon and your nutritionist. Don't let them dismiss you. You know your body better than anyone. Good luck to you, I hope you get answer's soon.

I am so sorry this is happening to you. I truly do understand what you are feeling. Before I had my GBS they found out that I had a rare form of a rare disorder. I was not the type of person that sat around eating all day or the wrong things either but continued to get bigger and bigger. The doctors would always rather believe that we lie than that there is actually something wrong with us and that can be so frustrating. I got a referal to an endocrinologist and they tested me for everything they thought I might have and although they thought I had Cushings Syndrome but it turned out to be a rare form of Conns Syndrome. They removed the tumor and my adrenal gland a little over a month before my GBS. I really feel like it was the right decision cause I might not have had as good of an outcome if I didn't. I had my Surgery on April 26,2011. altogether I have gone from 355lbs to 277lbs.

Please insist on getting that referal to an endocrinologist because for you to gain that much weight in that short amount of time there is definitely something wrong. Not only could that referal help find out why you're gaining weight but could possibly save your life. Did your doctor say why they wont give you a referal? Can you report your doctor to someone?

Sometimes a significant weight gain in a short period of time is water retention. This could signify a serious health issue with your heart . Do not let this drop, you deserve to be taken care of ASAP!!

Do you take any other medication?? The reason I ask is that some medication will get you to gain weight. I had that problem before the surgery and hope I'm not gaining everything again too because of the medication I take!
