For me the answer is: YES... At this point in time my gas doesn't have an odor, it is just loud....

Constipation has been a problem since my surgery... I now take two stool softeners in the morning and at night.... That seems to be helping.... My pcp told me I could take up to 8 a day and to find what worked best for me....

My NP at the bariatric center had me one one stool softener twice a day and then when it got to bad to stop them and take miralax for three days.... That wasn't working for me, so that is why I asked my PCP...

I had read about the problem of constipation and gas, and like you, I have never had a problem with constipation. On the reccomendation of someone on line I picked up a box of Smooth Move Herbal Tea, now I tried it out when on the presurgery liquid fast (around day 10 things didn't move too smooth)and it worked great. Being only a week out of surgery I havn't needed it yet but hope it works like they said. I like that it is natural and doesn't taste bad, I cup before going to bed

I don't have gas often but Ive had severe constipation.......I now take a rx medication for it because short of doubling up on the laxitives (not good for you by the way) nothing was working.

have no fear your surgeon will know how to handle any of these issues.

All I can say is that for both I drink a LOT of water, and walk as much as possible to help keep regular. As your doctor to send you home with some stool softeners and laxitive, it helps. Pain meds also cause constipation so be mindful of that and taper those off when you feel you are able.

My surgeon says to take metamucil as a preventive for constipation and mild of mag if become constipated... Tjere is also a pill canned devrom that is suppose to stop stinky farts and BM's :) :)

Yes, I used stool softeners, increased water, and after 3 months, two cups of fresh fruit a day. I prefer the fresh fruit to any artificial stool softeners. so if you are 3 months out, enjoy!

Drink lotsa water. I use a stool softener with doc's approval. He suggested a walmart fiber powder too. I also eat all bran regularly. I'd shy away from laxatives unless the Doc approves.
Gas? Never had much trouble with. Milk sometimes causes some but it is mostly "noise".

Becca, I do love that we can talk about anything on here. Thank you everyone for your input. I like all natural things you and we live in a hippie town where all natural earns you bonus points in the community....lol jk...but I may start with the tea first and see how that goes...

I don't have any issues with gas! I was told by all to walk walk walk walk! No gas here. I was constipated, but no pain. Pickle juice always helped me move, and it still does.

how funny we should be talking about this..since having the surgery I have never had so much GAS..lol..and the bad thing is it has an odor..i played it off so much saying it was my grandson..because his smelled the same until one day in the car he wasnt in there and they caught on..lol.. it happens every where..in the store, in church, in the car and anywhere i seem to go..never had a gas problem before and i think i may be gettting a payback for the all those times i teased my girlfriends...lol..all i can say is be careful and watch your surroundings..i always try to locate where the bathroom is in every place i walk in just in case and as for constipation i got it for the first time since my surgery in Oct. 4th of 2012...im usually the opposite and invest in imodium ad or the generic version at walmart.. so much cheaper...and now heres my question...is there a protein shake out there that tastes good...i may have lost 150 pds plus but im losing hair quickly and my protein intake is under 10 grams a day...my surgeon lectured me yesterday on my protein intake and what im doing to my body losing muscle mass..pls advice..i need help on any protein ideas...thx and GOD BLESS!!

I'm blessed - I've had neither, but I walk, walk ,walk and get my water in. Occasionally I feel a little stopped up, but a walk gets things moving again. Good luck!!

Be careful to not plan too well for constipation. You could have the reverse problem... I did. The other issue I had that actually kind of made me giggle was the very loud thunder sounds that came from my abdomen as things got used to their new places and such. It was hilarious! It was so loud one night in the hospital that it woke me up. Of course, I didn't sleep real well in the hospital and woke up to most noises, but still. :)

forgot to add my surgeon just had me start on a fiber but it isn't a psylium fiber it is called imulin. it is vegetable based. Metamucil does have it in there clear and something formula or you can order it on line. You can put it in anything you want and will never know it is there.
