I am currently taking lansoprazale 15mg one a day tablet and am also in process of decidig on weigth loss surgery. Has anoyone experienced the condition improving with the surhey if so which one bypass or the sleve or alternatively has anyone expereinced it getting worse>

I have never had acid reflux, so im not the most qualified person to answer this, BUT, in the RNY pre-surgery seminar someone asked that question and my surgeon said yes, because the acid in your stomach cannot move up, no where for it to go.

I have GERD and am on Nexium and have been on different PPI's for close to twenty years. Nexium is the best but is expensive....

Anyhoo, I cannot testify for sure but my surgeon and GI felt that I have a fairly good chance of getting off of it by the time I am a year out.

The sleeve can cause reflux according to my doctor.

You won't hear this often, as many know, but I recommend the Gastric Bypass over the Sleeve in this area. Reflux is more common with the sleeve...

I actually had acid reflux before the surgery -- during the surgery, the surgeon repaired a hiatal hernia (undiagnosed). Needless to say -- I have not had a problem with acid reflux since. Before the surgery, the doctors talked about if the gall bladder needed to come out -- they would take it or repair a hernia if one was found.

I no longer have acid reflux. The only medicine I'm taking now is vitamins.

I did not think it was possible to have acid reflux after gastric bypass. I had RNY 7 weeks ago and I no longer have acid issues at all!
