Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
Lou is well and has a private group on Facebook where a lot of DS old-timers go. Just do a DS post and ask someone to invite you to join it. (I rarely do Facebook, and so I can't help you there.)
To get a handle on what's happening--identify what's going on when you want to eat--are your tired? Angry, depressed, etc. If you can pay attention to your self-talk, you may be able to understand your triggers.
You say you are eating bad stuff, and I"m assumming that means carbs. You can improve things just be getting the bad carbs out of the house--processed things made from white flour, chips, high-fat snacks, etc. Replace them with nuts and whole grain crackers that you can pair with a protein, for starters.
Then get back to tracking your food and fluid intake someplace like LoseIt.com (I use the smartphone app). Being able to have a visual of what I am doing really helps me to make better choices. When I want to eat, I'll enter the food into the app to see what impact it will have on my daily numbers. If I like what I see, I eat it. If I don't, I delete that entry and try something else.
The other suggestions LuckyP gave you are also good ones. Any combination of these tactics will help you feel back in control.
BTW, it sounds to me like you have some fears around feeling unsupported because of your relocations. Try being proactive by doing a web search for local in-person support groups and bariatric programs in your new location. It may help you a lot to keep re-building your team as needed.
Take care, and keep posting here. Wishing you all the best in 2012...
P.S. glad to hear that Lou is doing great :)
