I'm 8 weeks post RNY and it hurts to eat almost anything. I get the feeling of hunger, I try to eat but it's uncomfortable. Can I eat salad? I'm scared to try anything. Some days it's not too bad and I can get a little down and keep it in but other days like today I just can't eat anything.
I can't drink a lot either.

I didn't eat salad until some time post op. Sticking to protein is more important at this point. Are you able to get protein shakes down? At 8 weeks you should be able to eat WELL chewed to mush foods. Are you using a baby spoon to keep your bites small? Are you taking tiny sips? It might be possible that you are eating too big of bites or taking to large sips. If you are having trouble keeping things down it is important to consult with your doctor.

When you say it hurts to eat what exactly hurts. If it hurts to swallow or hurts after the food is swallowed then you should consult your doctor. You should verify that you're chewing everything very well and make absolutely sure no drinking 30 min before eating, no drinking while eating, and no drinking for 30 min after eating - that's the rule from my doctor anyway.

I am almost four months post op from a RNY. I have had multiple setbacks! Three emergency surgeries for a stricture at the first anastomosis, an internal hernia where there was a Petersons defect, and a Intussusception Bowel blockage, where they completely revised my second anastomosis. I ended up on TPN because my small bowel got an Ileus and my small bowel stopped working. I'm doing great now with the once a week setback of eating too fast and too much, which leads to me throwing up for a good 24 hours and leaves me miserable. Unlike the majority, I had to have the rouyen-Y and a partial gastrectomy do to a disease I have. My stomach no longer worked. My surgery didn't help my reflux like the surgeon had thought it would. BUT, I still have the same concerns and need some input about food. My bypass was an emergency surgery, so I had no therapy, no dietician or any of the pre-op help. I am in awe of every single person who ops to have this surgery to better their life! It hasn't been easy. I need to gain weight which is very difficult with this surgery, that I find. Also, find I get so hungry which contributes to me eating too fast and too much!!! The biggest no-nos! Any imput I welcome! I am grateful for this group! Somedays can be hard!!!

It's been about 7 years ago that I got the operation, but there is a natural pill with papaya that was essential for me to digest food. Almost everything made me feel like it was going to make my stomach explode, but the papaya worked wonders...Almost immediately, too. You !ight try it.
