Hi all,
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and whatever other holiday I missed! I had my RNY on the 11th and already feel like a whole new person. My energy level has shot up through the roof, which makes it really difficult to sit and rest, but I am forced to because after running like crazy in the mornings I take a three-hour nap after lunch.
The only major discomfort was immediately post-op and that was due to all the gas the surgeon used. Once it dissipated, I was fine. Then there was the heartburn. Ever so slight at first, it increased, along with lower belly tenderness, daily until last Wednesday. Then it miraculously disappeared. How, you ask? Um, my bowels started working again! (you can use your imagination on that one)
I've been on our treadmill for about ten minutes nearly every day and it feels good to walk. I see small changes in my face, chin, belly and ankles. (I did take pics the day before surgery, holding a sign with that day's date and the weight I was at the beginning of this weight-loss journey, and will take pics every month on the same date.)
Today was my first day back at work, sort of. The church I work for has their Christmas pageant and big concert tomorrow, so I went in this morning to work with them for three hours. Seventeen singers, ten cast members and two trumpet players can make for a busy morning, but we got through it, even after I tripped over the conductor's podium and gashed my lower left leg. You may remember that was the leg that sent me to the hospital last month with MRSA cellulitis and cat scratch--all I could think of was, "Oh no, not again!" Hopefully the only thing that gets wounded this time around is my pride.
Oh, and when I walked into that church this morning, the choir members (the seventeen singers) mobbed me, hugged me tight and just couldn't get over how different I look. I don't see that much difference, but then again I see myself every day!
So, I'm down nineteen pounds pre-op and nine pounds post-op for a grand total of 28 pounds gone. That means I reached my first non-scale victory. Eighteen years ago, I made myself a beautiful A-line dress out of ivory organza that was embroidered all over with a gold metallic floral pattern. I lined it in silk. I haven't been able to wear it in eight years. Tonight I GOT BACK INTO IT AND IT FITS!!!!!
Guess what I'm wearing to this pageant and concert tomorrow? :-)

I have been taking in my bra and underwear every 3 months. Amazing how different things are now than in August. 80 pounds before surgery and 60 since surgery.
