Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. thanks again for the warm welcome! :)
As for the anxiousness and recovery, I keep remembering that I just had major surgery. And that is a big deal. I have to give my body the time to heal the best way it can. So it sucks, but sometimes that means doing less than I want to be doing.
And keep walking! That is great!!
I appreciate your advice :)
Welcome and we're glad you're here. You'll find everyone is very supportive and there's a wide range of experience.
I hit the library before my surgery, everything from history and classic novels to how to books. My friends took up crochet and knitting. Anything that isn't too heavy to sit on your sore tummy!
And walking is an EXCELLENT thing to do. It helps your body produce muscle, get rid of the last of the gasses from the surgery, and will help move the fat out.
Between that and sipping all day long, I found myself busy and tired enough to sleep at the end of the day.
Glad to have you on the losers bench!
I am glad to be here! I'm doing pretty good so far I think - don't really want to eat though and I get nauseous thinking about eating, so I drink and try to eat something.
Any ideas how to deal with the nauseous?
Firstly, make sure you're staying well hydrated. If you get dehydrated at all, it causes queasiness and it's really hard to catch up.
For other kinds of nausea, I would make a cup of green tea (decaf for the first couple of weeks) with lots of fresh sliced ginger and sweeten it with a little Splenda and a tiny bit of honey for flavor (don't eat the ginger). Ginger helps to calm a queasy stomach, and warm drinks really seemed to help early on, which was funny-- I've never tolerated anything that wasn't icy cold or piping hot before.
Also, keep the liquids away from your meals, at least 1/2 hour before and 1/2 after, sometimes more depending on how dense your meal was. That will help too.
Hope you're feeling better by now, but maybe this will help going forward.

I am hoping to have the roux-en-y in the next few months. I am looking forward to discussing and learning and having some support. I would like to discuss with some of you your experience with the surgery, recovery, and outcome. If you can message me and let's talk.
KMC congrats on having the surgery. I look forward to following your journey
It was the BEST decision I've ever made and would not turn back - my ONLY regret..........NOT doing it sooner! But, better late than NEVER as they say.
If you have questions, ask away, make a discussion here and people will answer, they are ALL VERY KIND! and have been a BLESSING to me in advice
