Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
I have no idea what a main line is. I would like to know, so hoping you'll update. I didn't even leave with a drain in, so guess I was lucky that way.

I haven't had a problem yet with stools, but a stool softner is only going to soften the stool that is in there, it's not a "laxative" so it doesn't make you go. What kind of diet are you on right now? (All surgeons are different with their diets and phases of how they want you to do things, for example, I can't have ice for 6 months now, but others are almost immediately doing popsicles and ice chips.) I think what and how much is going in has a lot to do with what is coming out.. that is why I ask.
I am now 7 weeks post op and doing great. Just hang in there. It gets better by the week!

Stool softeners are generally not used on a daily basis. That is why a fiber is a better idea.
I am 9 days out from sugery and don't want to think about the next damn protien shake. I have spent the weekend coming up with anything I can to spice them up.
Here is what I came up with:
SF Soy Milk - Plain or vanilla
Adding 1/2 teaspoon instant coffee
Tried some malt powder (added lots of fluffy air so let it settle)
SF coffee syrups
Varied the sources of protien ie - Carnation Instant Breakfast SF, Atkins Advantage, Trader Joe Brand each one has a distinctive taste.
I also used the vanilla powder to make some fruity shakes with flavoring in the bakery isle (the orange seemed the best). Peppermint with the chocolate was good too.
Sometimes blended and sometimes on ice made some variance for me too.
Let me know if anyone has anyother ideas.
