how overweight do you need to be to have gastric surgery and in uk how much does it cost any info would help.

Usually your BMI has to be over 35 with two comorbidities (diabetes, high blood pressure, etc), or over 40 with no comorbidities. To check your BMI go here:

Sorry I can't help with the costs in the UK, maybe one of the others here could tell you that, but here in the US my surgery was $35,000. My insurance picked up most of the cost. Wish you the best!!!

Hi Pam,
Callie has the BMI about right, surgery would have cost around 10,000.
Try to get it NHS, depending where you are and who recommends you (GP) you will get the exact same service as if you had gone private.

Fill us in more, and we might be able to offer more advice and suggestions.

I had my surgery on 12/14/09 and it cost 51,000 but I stayed in Icu for 3 days and then to the floor for 2 days. Hope this helps.
