Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
I'm sorry about the passing of your mom. That's a hard one. Just take it a day at a time. It's great that your brother is being so supportive of you, and I'm sure it will be great for the two of you to have some time together.
Most of us do not wake up with a breathing tube still in our throats. I really can't remember much of anything after the anesthesiologist gave me an injection through an IV tube. I woke up as I was being moved from recovery to a private room. No pain to speak of, no complications. I was just tired. And curious about how I would feel. I hope your surgery goes as easily as my own did.
In doing my pre-surgery internet searches, I found that most sites (this one was the exception) majored on the drama--all the things that went wrong. But please keep in mind that that is what generates traffic. Drama. GBS has been performed now for more than 50 years. That's A LOT of experience for the medical profession, and they have drastically improved the procedures and the outcomes. As far as other's horror stories, keep in mind what you do not know: the quality of their program, the state of their health pre-op, how well they prepared and how well they followed the program post op. I recommend that you focus on your own preparation and getting that right and let the internet dramas go.
Co-pays. What can I say. It's a hot of hoops to just through pre-op. I remember spending a small fortune seeing a recommended psychiatrist who spent almost three months trying to convince me that she wasn't anorexic. I hadn't asked, but it was pretty obvious that she was in denial. Eventually, realizing that I was not being treated appropriately, I ditched it. It was an expensive lesson in learning to trust myself.
As to your pets. What can I say? I hope that they recover. But eventually, they won't and that's part of being a pet parent. I just lost two cats who were elderly. I was in denial about their health for so long. But eventually, I did the right thing.
Please try not to dwell on everything all at once. It just generates unnecessary stress. One step at a time, one day at a time. And keep breathing. Breathing exercises are a great way to learn how to control your stress reactions. Now that is something that might be a worthwhile internet search. Just saying. :)
Thank you for taking the time to walk me through my freak out. I was seriously overtired. The pups had me up several times throughout the night. I feel super lucky to have found this site. Every one has been so kind. I started meditating again earlier this week. I'm hoping this will be helpful. It has been in the past.
Now that my surgery is on the countdown, it's finally real. Breathe, is the best advice ever. Thanks again.
