My Doc told me about the same odds but also said that most of those who didn't make it were very ill in a lot of other ways. So since I was healthy there was hardly any thing to worry about!

I'd say you are normal. It's normal to be a little afraid.

At the point I set out to get my surgery I was so tired of being fat I didn't really care if I took a chance of not making it. Not that I was suicidal, just I wanted to lose the weight so bad!

I doono about the crying, never had that emotion. I was really in a hurry to get mine done as soon as possible. Wouldn't change a thing other than would have gotten the surgery years ago!

I'm with SgtSmith. It is normal. I also figured that the people who were most likely to be included in those stats are the ones even more unhealthy than I was. Have you done everything your doc has told you to do? Honestly? If so, relax. He doesn't want you to be a statistic either. I also was sooooo tired of being obese and having the obesity related issues that I was willing to take the risk. Bring it on attitude. Do you have support in the form of friends, parents, significant other? Reach out to them.

My surgery is 12-09. Like Sgt Smith's comment, my surgeon told me, of course it's extremely rare, but the ones that don't make it have other issues than just the surgery. On the other hand, you wouldn't be human if you didn't worry about it. I'm 10 days away and it's on my mind. I've been told this is probably because this is my first surgery.

My surgery is the day after yours and I've had the same thoughts! It's scary, but reassurance from my dr and others that have gone through it has helped! Now, I'm more worried about complications after than during the surgery! Keep a positive attitude, think happy thoughts and just believe in your surgeon! It will all be ok!

My surgery is 12/10 and I am starting to get more nervous each day. I have done all the things that I was suppose to~~but I still have trepidation! I think we will all be great!!

I think it's normal to be nervous. My doctor said the bypass is no more dangerous than having you gallbladder out. You will be fine. Just think about the rewards of the surgery.

I cried when I was alone a lot..... I was sooooo scared. And he's high balling with 2%. It's more like .8%. The deaths are from post ops and 80% of them smoke.... Don't be afraid.
