Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
Pay attention to your "soft cues".that tell you when you should stop eating...burping, a runny nose, a sigh, or the food tasting different. Chew everything to a liquid (I think you learned that one the hard way). If you throw up, go to liquids for 24 hours.
Personally, I wouldn't waste the pouch space on veggies...but then I don't like them anyway! :)
Congrats on your shrinkage so far!!

1. You even impressed your surgeon with your weight loss Id say that indicates you are eating just right. Remember it is not always about how much you restrict that matters. if you are not eating enough you can sabotage your progress just as easily.
(id of choked on fish too lol ) like JJ I cant do fish at all.
2. I think if it is ok with your program to try protein ice cream then go for it. I would use it as your snack slot not an addition to your daily food intake though. eggface has good nutritious things. I can't do ice cream many get sick on it.
3. you are quickly loosing your body's insulation so you will be cold after loosing 32lbs in less then a few weeks. (really great job again)
I had to search and search my town at 3mths post op for an electric blankie I was so cold,, not easy in March even where I live. the target kid(he was about 12 ) said they only sell them in winter...I said honey we still have a good 3 mths of winter weather ahead of us. lol anyway that's how I got warm.
And eggface's recipes are wonderful.... I would ask your nut if OK to make protein ice cream... I personally haven't tried any, so I am not sure where we should be in our journey... And I was cold from the get go... And still am.... Most people I talk to experience this... I have my favorite hoodie, and walk around in the summer wrapped up in it...
Congrats on your loss so far.. That is wonderful... Keep it up... THings get easier and balance out as you go along...
I know I won't have room for that much of a variety of different food groups. But, even though we are on vitamins, and it's in a lot of the protein too, how are we supposed those important nutrients from vegetables?
I am in that mindset, that veggies are good for us, and hearing you say I don't have room, or don't want to waste room in my pouch for veggies...confuses me.
I do know, "protein first, then veggies, then fruit.
But, can anyone explain how it's ok for some of us to go without getting the veggies, besides getting the specific nutrients from our vitamins?

Foundation:
When I think of food, I think in terms of protein, carbs, and fats.
Other than water, protein is the most abundant nutrient in your body. Protein is essential for the replacement of old cells, building muscles, organs, blood, nails, hair, skin, and tissues. Protein also takes part in hormone, antibodies, and enzyme formation. Your body cannot "produce" protein. It has to come from the foods you eat. If you don't get enough protein, your body will eat your muscles to get it.
Our bodies break carbohydrates (simple and complex) into glucose. Every cell in our body uses glucose for energy, so it is essential to life...so it sounds like carbs are important, right? There are a couple cool things that are game-changers. Our bodies have stored lots of potential energy just in case of a carb crisis!! Yep, that's why we were fat....our bodies were preparing for a famine. Don't eat carbs and your body will start running on stored energy (yeah!!). So, once we get to our target weight, do we need to add lots of carbs into our diet? Nope!! Without enough carbohydrates in the body, our bodies will convert protein to glucose.
Dietary fat is also essential to good health. Essential fatty acids cannot be manufactured by the body. We have to eat it.
My thought process based on the foundation and what I understand about RNY:
I wanted to lose my excess weight as quickly as possible without compromising my health. My pouch space is limited. Protein and healthy fats are the most important thing I can eat because my body can manufacture the glucose it needs from stored fat or from protein but it can't manufacture protein or essential fatty acids. I take 2 multi-vitamins every day (and other supplements as indicated through bloodwork) because, post RNY, I can't eat enough vegetables to provide the vitamins/nutrients I need, and my body don't absorb all the nutrients from what I eat, anyway (the malabsorption part of RNY - the first part of the intestine no longer gets food). Veggies do provide fiber, but I put a supplement in my protein drink so I don't need that.
Because of the way our bodies operate and the vitamins I take, I consider fruits and veggies luxuries. Protein and essential fats are not.
Hope that helps!!
JJ
And yeah Boo... I always wondered the same thing. I am ok with the fiber additives to help, but i LOVE veggies and do want to add them back in in time. My NUT says I should be able to do that.... But in the meantime, vitamins help fill in the gap.
