Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. My physician also told me that weight gain (a little) was normal, as my body would be seeking it's new normal. I wasn't happy to gain anything! However, at my lowest weight, I had daily episodes of low blood glucose, and that was scary. So I relaxed, accepted, and allowed my body's wisdom to find it's comfort place. To do that, I stuck with the nutrition program I was given, and kept walking as much as I could.
I'm 4.5 years PO now, and my weight has been stable for the last three years.
I still say that learning to maintain and keep up with the program in maintenance is the REAL challenge of this lifestyle change. But it is doable.
Hang in there.
I dump big time on sugar.
My surgeon says a small % of regain is normal, but does not have to happen if we want to work hard enough to keep it off. I think I can live with not losing the other 15 lbs, but am no ok with regaining...
I think its just a matter of two things. 1) Can you be happy with where you are now? 2) if not, are you willing to put in the extra work to go back to where you were?
Best of luck figuring out what to do next! And congrats on doing as well as you have!!
Now, I'm still 30 lbs away from goal, and have been here for almost 4 years, without any gain from my 125 lbs gone. It may be there's no gain because I'm at or a little above where my body feels right, but I also know that my maintenance eating isn't the way I was eating when I was losing.
Maybe get back to basics, tracking and journaling, and see where the extra calories (or not burning them up) is sneaking into your days?
Take care and let us know how you're doing.
