Pregnancy

I was just wondering about the actual possibility of getting pregnant after surgery. I am on the pill and also use condoms. But sometimes the hubby doesn't want to. So I'm just curious to anyone else's theories, experiences, and info.

My surgeon says yes but after 2 years, so that your body has time to completely heel.

My physician advised me that after recovering from surgery and loosing weight that fertility usually goes way up. Also remember that the pill may not be as absorbed after surgery so it should not be the only method of pregnancy prevention. Part of my programs requirements required me to sight a form stating I would use methods to avoid pregnancy for the 18 months after surgery.

Though my surgeon told me that he thinks that stopping the pill after the rapid weight loss phase is over (12 months or so) we could start trying. Not what they usually recommend but because of my age waiting longer is not the best idea (advance maternal age at 35y/o...lol)

I would be interested to know what others are using to prevent pregnancy after surgery as well.

Per my NUT and Surgeon, the fertility level goes way up and a lot of accidental pregnancies tend to accure around the 6 month mark due to not taking precautions that is right around the time that you are still loosing weight and getting into your new body. My surgeon advised 2 years to wait for pregnancy if at all possible. However talk to your OB/GYN they can give you other alternatives and even help you have a healthy pregnancy if you do become pregnant. MY OB/GYN said she would like to see me pregnant after 18mos of my surgery due to my age She would like me to have my first one somewhere when I am 37 and go from there, she said she will work closely with my Surgeon.

I'm pre surgery but take the depo shot every 6 months and was told that was the safest route to continue after surgery. I know 3 people that have got pregnant before a yr out and although they had healthy babies, they were considered high risk. All 3 of them are back up to their pre surgery weight or bigger!
