How Long..?

Roughly, how long did it take you guys to go from your first meeting with the surgeon to your surgery date? My insurance doesn't require Physician aided weight loss for 6 months.. so I was just trying to get a rough estimate of what I may be looking at. I meet with the surgeon for the first time Friday!!

I had a little bump on the road with an abnormal ekg. It turned out to be nothing and I'm scheduled for 7/6. It took about six weeks.

2 whirlwind months for me. Every country, program and insurance is different.

From first meeting with the surgeon, it took about 3.5 months. I had to do 2 visits with nut, 2 with psych and the surgeon sent me for a cardio workup.

My insurance required 6 months of pre-op stuff. Then I had to have various tests since I was going for the lapband and they found my esophogus had "nut cracker syndrome" so lapband was out. I am so glad that happened to me - did the bypass instead. So with the additional tests, the process took me 9 months. Totally worth it. Started at 290, now at 165.

Went to a seminar on March 17, they finally called me to schedule an appt. I had an list of other doctors and specialist I had to see before I could be a approve. My insurance is Blue Cross. June 2nd I had my surgery. One week I had 3 appts!

I started my journey begining of July 2010 that was when I went to my first mandatory meeting, then got my first appointment with the doctor, then began on diet and continued with mandatory meetings...I had to wait a while becasue of my insurance, but, was finally approved the begining of December 2010..I decided to hold off till after the holidays because of my family..so I had my surgery Jan. 12 2011. I guess roughly 5 1/2 months. I also had full preop workups with cardiologist, nephrologist, ( U have a heart arrythmia, and kidney disease ) this held things up just a bit. I was also required to attend meeting regarding diet, exercise, blended diet etc.

I went to my first class the end of November, then had the surgery April 1st, so in there were all my appts. Good luck!! Its well worth it!

mine took 4 months from first doct appt..
went by pretty fast.. I had to lost 10% body weight and do a bunch of stuff, but it was well worth it..

almost 2 months for me and I look back on it and see how lucky I was, some people wait months or a year or more. Good luck!
