Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
Yes, it does seem endless, all the paperwork, appointments, and preparations. But it really does all go together for a good outcome...and we surely do want that for you, and each other. I think the emotions you are feeling are VERY normal.
I never was a smoker, so I can't comment on that. Another challenge I'm sure.
Good luck, and chime in any time.

As for smoking, I quit 13 years ago. I wish for you, willpower. In my program, quitting was a must otherwise surgery would be suspended. Good luck!
I am eight day post -op and had all the anxiety and worries you described above. I just focused strongly on ppl who had this surgery before and were successful. I had surgeons who were wonderful and received the bariatric excellence award for their program. I held faith that I would wake up...have a couple week struggle....but a wonderful rest of my life! Hope this helps

FYI I quit cold turkey go this surgery to be scheduled. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe quitting is better than being flat out skinny and fit as a fiddle. NOT. No nothing is better than being skinny and fit. Not ONE thing on earth.
Welcome, goodluck, I wish you success

About giving up certain foods. Probably not a lifetime thing. Most people can eat most things in moderation at some point. However, you may change them up somewhat--instead of regular pasta, go for whole wheat, etc. So don't stress too much about it. I thought it would be really difficult but now, at three months post-op, I have to say that I haven't had any real cravings. Your taste seems to change postop. What you once liked, now you may not care for....
