Hey all!
DS is a wonderful site!! And the support I found here over the last 2 years will forever be with me... Love you guys by the way... sorry I am not here so much these days. Know its because i am out living life! Going to the gym 6 days a week (at 5:30 flippin a.m.!!) and got a pro mo at work, busy with grad school... Life is good! :)
KUDOS to all for taking steps to reclaiming their freedom and health!!

It was time I dusted off my poem writing "pen" and wrote about my relationship with food. This poem is far from spruced up... that will come in time. For now, you get it 'as is' and hot off the press :P
Food; My closest friend for many years
Ive always blamed our dysfunctional relationship on you.
It always seemed you were the one,
Who tormented me.
Punished me
Mistreated me
Abused me
Broke me
Consumed me
Ahhhhhh. But you are just food
You did your part
You were always there when I needed comfort,
To drown myself
Hide myself
Ignored myself
Deny myself
Yes, you did your part
You never let me down
I could count on you to do all that was asked of you,
And then some.
Today I realized I was the toxin,
In our relationship.
I am the one who was so needy
Who did not know
How else,
Where else
Who else
To turn to for comfort.
I am the one responsible.
For our dysfunctional relationship.
In fact, your only goal is to
Just be.
It was my choice to use and abuse you,
And in turn, myself.
It was my choice to take you beyond the limits of nourishment.
With this realization
Comes acceptance.
Forgiveness.
I accept you as the nourishment for my body that you are.
I accept my role in taking our relationship to this dysfunctional place I created.
In this acceptance, I forgive not you,
For there is nothing to forgive you for.
No.
I forgive myself.
To you, I thank you.
I thank you for always being present,
For getting me through times in my life I had needs I did not know how to fill,
With anything but you.
I thank you for providing life sustaining nourishment.
I thank you, for just being
But now right now!
It is time to let go.
To set new boundaries,
To move past dysfunction.
Food;
You will always be a part of my life.
Nourishment for my body.
I will enjoy your presence.
Occasionally, I will indulge in you.
You may,
On even rarer occasion,
Be the coping tool I turn to.
Today however, I have healed enough
Found courage enough
AM enough
To move into a healthy, life sustaining relationship with you.
