Did he say why he wants you to eat so much? It does seem like a lot to me...

As to the calories....I think you doctor is nuts. He certainly isn't living with a pouch himself. At just 3.5 months PO, you can probably only eat 1/4 c. to 1/2c. No hunger. I was eating about 600 calories. 800 on a good day. If you stay between 600-800, you'll lose weight pretty consistently.
Why does he want you to eat more? If you are getting about 70 gr. of protein per day and taking your vitamins, you should have no nutritional worries. :)
