Compulsive gambling is an urge or addiction to gamble despite harmful negative consequences or a desire to stop. A preferred term among many professionals is problem gambling, as few people described by the term experience true compulsions in the clinical sense of the word. Problem gambling often is defined by whether harm is experienced by the gambler or others rather...
After years of lying to myself and making excuses. I just self-excluded today. A great start to the weekend.
I banned from 3 places, Harrahs in PA, Delaware Park and Hollywood Casino in Maryland. All three bannings cover every casino in that state. Could I go to a random casino in any of these states and sneak in and gamble, MAYBE.
I did, however, attempt that at Harrah's and got caught !, so I won't be risking it again. The bannings themselves were extremely easy. I was treated kindly, respectfully and the employees and gaming authorities was extremely supportive. But when I got caught at Harrahs, it was really terrible. The state police came and I was arrested and fined and had to go to court and it was pretty awful. If you can ban, I highly recommend it.
I agree with ksgal13 in that those were the BEST rides home from any casinos ever. Best to everyone here.
Self banning has been a HUGE tool for me.
Yesterday, with going to GA picnic in MD, and then to friends to watch Preakness on TV (and explaining, odds, payouts etc.) I drove home early and had "extra time".
My mind went to ohhhh MD "Live" casino sign. I had not ventured into that casino. Maybe......
I am banned in MD. I was jolted back to reality today (and thank goodness I did not go) reading your post "darlingd"
THANK you for posting the specifics about your experience w/ crossing the ban line.
I needed that so much.
This disease is so sneaky!
And I can see how my visit w/ friends I was visiting, how I exposed and recounted my crazy gambling past that I have now ceased. And all the horse race talk etc.
It REVVED me up. It woke up that disease side.
I KNOW for a fact had I not been banned, I would have been losing.
And the reminder of consequences when crossing the line helps tremendously.
Thanks for this board and you people!
