Compulsive gambling is an urge or addiction to gamble despite harmful negative consequences or a desire to stop. A preferred term among many professionals is problem gambling, as few people described by the term experience true compulsions in the clinical sense of the word. To the higher power,
I pray for my friend here, I pray that you would give strength where there is none. I pray you to be a friend and to provide where provision is needed.
I lift my friend to you and ask that you stand in the gap for my friend, and that you would be a comforter and be the rock of foundation that is needed.
Let my friend know that whenever you are needed day or night, rain or shine, you are there. My friend can call on you boldly any time is needed.
In your name,
Amen
P.S.
I hope you don't mind but I felt it might help. I pray this prayer for all my friends on Dailystrength.
now i have a nice car, furniture, even decent furniture, two dogs, a horse, shoes without holes in them, a real bed, and my credit is almost rebuilt and my daughter always has food and diapers. I have been employed at the same place for over 2 years, and am starting college this quarter. actually, most gamblers, are smart people, but its an addiction, something that comes from something inside us. and we come from all walks of life. does it really make sense? NO, do we know better? of course, do i slip up here and there? yes. why? because i have an addiction. i choose to work in the middle of my addiction, because to not do so, even though i would not be feeding my addiction, would force me to sacrifice other aspects of my life, that are just as important.
so i have to learn to work around my addiction, and have the knowledge to correct my mistakes when i make them. and whoever made the comment about and alcoholic in a bar, obviously doesn't know much about alcoholics. i know plenty of people who are in AA that are in fact, bartenders themselves. if i asked you, told you, that you should pick up your life and job, and find something else, because you are stupid for doing so, would you be able to? for any reason? Just quit your job and find another especially in today's economy?
i thnk not.
strangely, im not offended by what you have said, because i understand that YOU have an addiction, and that sometimes addicts feel the need to pick others apart in order to feel better about their own demons. but i did feel the need to explain who i am, and a little of my story, and to remind people that somtimes when people come here they are at rock bottom, and they are hurting, and reguardless of where they come from, we should be here to support them, and let them know that they are not alone, and that there are people who understand and empathize that they can talk to. So that they can see, that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
my mom spends 20 bucks and freaks out. i remember when that used to seem like alot of money to me. They just dont understand what we do, and how we get stuck in it. its not like a drug addiction where there is a physical counterpart. but it is an addiction. you might not get the support and understanding you feel you need from your family, because they dont understand. thats why there are places like GA and AA... and this site, to find others on the same path who can relate.
