For us gambling addicts, we lose all rational thought when we are in the casino. I'd think nothing of going to the ATM every hour to drain my checking account and withdraw maximum daily limits on my charge card, just for the thrill of getting a feature play on a slot machine. Then for the next month, scrimp and budget, never be able to buy clothes or extras, etc. It is a disease. Once you recognize you have the disease there is only one solution. You can't go in the casino. Even now, after around six years since I self-banned from local casinos, I can feel the siren call to gamble. Last weekend I was on a trip a couple hours from home and passed by a casino where I'm not self-banned. Had a momentary mental struggle whether it would be fun to stop. Went through the whole scenario in my mind. The thrill of walking in, finding a favorite slot machine, buying a pack of cigarettes (although I haven't smoked for a couple years), sitting at the slot becoming mesmerized by the spinning images. The anticipation of each spin being a jackpot. But then the fantasy in my mind stops. Being exhausted the next day, no money left, possibly addicted to nicotine again and having to go through withdrawal. Gambling can't be fun for me or for you because we can't stop once we start, can't leave a winner.
