Casinos have different policies on how they handle returned checks. Can you call them and ask them what happens when your check is returned? There is no need to be afraid of speaking with them; after all, you both have mutual interests as you want to pay the check and they want you to pay the check, too, plus you are a good customer and they don't want to lose you. They just want you to pay for the check. In most places (and I have written checks in casinos and had them returned) they will send you a notice of a returned check and give you a deadline to pay it. There will be hefty fees attached to it. Sometimes they may deposit it a second time or even a third time but they cannot deposit it more than three times. They also may use a return check service and those people will hound you terribly for a very short while....maybe ten days and then they turn it over for prosecution. Depending on the amount of the check, it may be a misdemeanor or a felony. Both are not good but the felony is worse.

I am blacklisted in the casinos where I wrote bad checks and they won't accept checks from me. Hallelujah!!!

One of the twenty questions in Gamblers Anonymous is "Have you ever committed, or considered committing, an illegal act to finance gambling?" Writing a bad check is an illegal act.

They most likely will not allow payments because then the bad check becomes a credit transaction and they cannot prosecute a credit transaction. I may be wrong about that, depending on the state in which you wrote the check.

In 2004 I decided that I did not want to have this chaos surrounding checks any longer. So...I did not order checks and tore up the ones I had. For ten years, I have not had checks. Occasionally, I do get a counter check, which the bank prints up at $3.00 for three of them and I do this so that I can take out payday loans and paycheck advances. Mostly, I pay cash or use a money order or pay with my debit card.

I am sorry you are so stressed by this but you will get through it. It will pass and the days will pass.

One more thing, an attorney told me that in this state where I live, any time a person writes a check and it is returned for NSF, prosecution is a possibility even if the person who wrote the check pays for it. I asked the attorney to explain and she said that the crime occurred when the check was written. It may have been paid and made good, but the actual writing of the check already occurred. She said that it would be very rare if a check that was made good was prosecuted but it could happen, and especially if the writer of the check had a history with being prosecuted for writing bad checks.

As I write this, I want to say that I hope I am not scaring you or making you more stressed. You will have time to address the issue of the returned check. It will need your timely attention, however.

This happened to me before. The first time, they sent the check through and I did not have the funds to cover it. They sent me a letter/bill saying I owed them but by that time, they had already sent it back through my bank and it was covered. This last time, about a month ago, they sent it through my bank 3 times over the course of 2 weeks. It really caused a lot of things to bounce because I thought they would just send a bill after the 2nd time. You will want to call the telecheck place, they are really nice and ask them what should be done. There is a number on the back of the check cashing card.
