One of the twenty questions in Gamblers Anonymous is "Have you ever committed, or considered committing, an illegal act to finance gambling?" Writing a bad check is an illegal act.
They most likely will not allow payments because then the bad check becomes a credit transaction and they cannot prosecute a credit transaction. I may be wrong about that, depending on the state in which you wrote the check.
I have been there, done that, and have the t shirt. I have been arrested for writing bad checks.
In 2004 I decided that I did not want to have this chaos surrounding checks any longer. So...I did not order checks and tore up the ones I had. For ten years, I have not had checks. Occasionally, I do get a counter check, which the bank prints up at $3.00 for three of them and I do this so that I can take out payday loans and paycheck advances. Mostly, I pay cash or use a money order or pay with my debit card.
I am sorry you are so stressed by this but you will get through it. It will pass and the days will pass.

As I write this, I want to say that I hope I am not scaring you or making you more stressed. You will have time to address the issue of the returned check. It will need your timely attention, however.
