I'm starting over again today, my latest Day 1.
My youngest son is graduating college on Mother's Day and I am going to give him and myself the best graduation and Mother's Day present I can think of.
I'm going to the casino as soon as I get back from the graduation in Boston and I will sign the papers to self exclude.
My mother has agreed to go with me, which is a big step for both of us because she has always been against me excluding myself. I'm her gambling buddy and I know she doesn't like the idea of us not being able to have 'our time' together.
I am so very low and broken and I simply can't live like this anymore.
I am, however, extremely relieved that I have made this decision and that my mother is finally supporting the idea.
I'm not ready to confess my lost ways to a group in person, so GA is out of the question for me for now. Maybe I'll get there, but I also firmly do not believe that GA is my only hope. Trying again to find a good counselor is next on my list, along with continuing to come here and getting my hands on as much information as possible, starting with buying the book 'Why We Suffer'.
Thanks to everyone for being on this site. The friendships here are so valuable and important and I'm honored to be part of it, even though I don't post much.

I'm glad you've decided to quit gambling. I went over 9months gamble free and I slipped and hit bottom yet again. I know that if we don't go back that our lives will be so much better. This is day 2 for me. I self banned too, and it is like lifting a big weight off of your shoulders. Keep posting here! Stay Strong because together we can do this!!

Cher, I would definitely be interested in the GA call. When, where, how do I do that ? And you are right that this is a really big deal that my Mom is finally on board with my decision.
Lisa, I wish you the best in your renewed journey to be healthy. 9 months is so amazing and I dream of the day I can say a number that big for myself ! I am SO looking forward to the 'big weight being lifted'. When did you self ban ?

I truly believe that having your mother support your desire to quit
gambling is going to be huge in your abstinence.
My mother doesn't gamble but just telling her and gaining her support was what really helped me to see that I could do this, with her and with all of the support I do get here.
GA is not for everyone and you may certainly change your mind one day, they are ALWAYS there to help.
You can also get the manuals they use as the 12 steps of an addiction program are "tried and true".
I recently read a very good book that you may wish to get at the local library..........."Stop Me Because I Can't Stop Myself."
