It sure does feel like that at times. But I know I am in charge of my own life and I will be damned if I will ever stop fighting this addiction. It is so tough sometimes but not undoable. No way do I want to leave this earth with gambling being my main activity. Don't give up.

Several years ago, a GA brother was given a terminal medical diagnosis. He had struggled for years with this disease but when his time came he left gamble free.

It gets discouraging but always put one step in front of the other and keep moving toward recovery.

I will forever be a compulsive gambler but I don't have to be gambling.

If you think can or you think you can't, you're probably right.

If you come to the realization that gambling has defeated you , you won't fail.

However, if you keep gambling you will always lose, there will never be enough

Ahhhh, the world of absolutes. Never, and Always. Two words that are playing the defeat game. Can you possible play the absolute game in a different mode? I will never be defeated in my quest to stop gambling? I will always think before I gamble and always stop myself form gambling. Hummmm, at the lowest point, the absolutes can defeat us, but find it somewhere in you to turn this around. Find it............................ Please.

I agree I will always be a gambler. I will just be a gambler who's no longer gambling. I refuse to believe this addiction is stronger than I am. As I approach 7 months of abstinence I remain steadfast in my committment to my recovery. Instead of looking back with regret I look forward with hope. Rather than lay down at night full of shame I wake up full of pride. Instead of being a passenger on an out of control bus I am now the pilot of a fighter jet on a mission. I believe in myself, I believe in my recovery and I BELIEVE IN YOU. Regardless of how many times you fall and fail you can never give up hope that you can beat this. You have the power and strength to conquer this addiction. Make an investment in all the tools available to you and every day make a commitment to yourself that you will try to defeat this once and for all. Should you trip and fall along your journey have compassion for yourself. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, don't look back and keep trying!

Fully understand were he is coming from. Have over 6 months clean yet the lure of playing poker and sportsbetting constantly haunt me. Last time I gambled I lost about 4 thousand on a winter weekend and got so depressed about it took the other 6 thousand out of the room wall safe and drove home. Have not gambled since but some days am more exhausted from fighting it than if I was in action. A constant battle!

The mind is a powerful thing and so is the will to survive. Please believe that you can and will lick this compulsion to gamble.
Yes I admit now I am a compulsive gambler but no longer wish to gamble. I'm only 11 days clean but I already feel better. I recently bought some books and started reading. One of the books I am reading is by Bill Lee and the title is Born To Lose. It is his memoirs of a compulsive gambler. A great read. I found it on Ebay. Maybe it will help you not to give up and to know there is hope. Just remember you are not alone in this fight. We are all in it together and here for each other.
