Gambling Addiction & Recovery Support Group
Compulsive gambling is an urge or addiction to gamble despite harmful negative consequences or a desire to stop. A preferred term among many professionals is problem gambling, as few people described by the term experience true compulsions in the clinical sense of the word. Problem gambling often is defined by whether harm is experienced by the gambler or others rather...
As for excuses to gamble, your mind will always find a reason. I always did.
You have to ask yourself if you are sick and tired of being sick and tired? Are you ready to go to any lengths to remove your gambling addiction?
My heart goes out to you! Take Care!
Yep, I know how you feel inside.. I'd be willing to bet ( oops, lol ) that everyone here knows how you are feeling and we have SO much empathy for you.
Please stick to the GA meetings and do the work involved , cuz' it does work, but We have to work the steps... we have to live the program.
Im very sorry to hear about your sister. But listen, if you cant stop gambling for yourself right now, at least try to stop for her ....? She is going to need you in the near future and you should try your hardest to be there for her.
Please try to stop gambling...you are never gonna get your money back and the only reason I know this is because I tried.. and I too failed. Its to late for me to get my money back. But its not to late for me to get my self respect, self esteem and dignity back.
You can do it!
Respectfully, when you say "I can't stop gambling" don't you really mean "I have failed to stop completely" After all you said "I can go a few days and sometimes a week...." So you CAN stop gambling because you can sometimes go a coupld days or a week. You have failed to produce the desired results SO FAR.
As I get older my spelling and English gets worse. But I'm not overly concerned about it and only have a 1/2 ass interest in getting back to where I was with the English before I retired. So it keeps getting worse. Now if my lack of good spelling and grammer was causing as much trouble as gambling has in my life, then I'd be far more motivated and I'd pay very close attention to every single key I hit on the keyboard. I;d get out the old English textbooks and I'd brush up. If that failed to produce the desired results then maybe I'd get some help from someone who knows what they're doing. Like an English major or take classes. I would have to take action
That's why we're here. There are people ahead of us who are showing us the way to brush up on our recovery. But WE have to put out the effort and WE have to listen to them and learn from then and then give a little back when we feel stronger. I'm 3 or 4 days in and I'm reading everything on here and I'm learning and taking part. Why? Because I need their help and it's starting to work for me. For the first time in around 4 years I can see the light of day and I don't feel like gambling. It seems to have no attraction to me at all right now and I'm going to try to keep it that way by taking part here and listening and learning
I'd wish you good luck but luck has nothing to do with it I guess. How about if I wish you Good Hard Work instead?
Ric

I am so sorry to hear of your sister's recent diagnosis. Cancer...the big "C" as its sometime referred to as...regardless of it's form, is a tough, uphill battle. Most forms require a regimented, disciplined treatment plan of chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, etc, yet there's no guarantee that these measures will arrest the spreading of this disease. There's no guarantee full recovery can be achieved.
Cathy, here's an interesting parallel for you to consider. Compulsive gambling is a progressive deteriorating disease, much like cancer. Left untreated, it will slowly eat you alive from the inside out, until it has sucked all the vitality and zest for life right out of your soul. This disease can kill you.
There's no doubt about it Cathy....beating our "cancer" is a formidable task and is not for the weak at heart. But the difference between our form of cancer and your dear sister's diagnosis is that we have an absolute, 100% chance of arresting our cancer and ensuring ourselves of a full recovery...if we stop gambling. You're sister's survival, in large part, is not in her hands.....ours is!
I appreciate that you "try" to go to GA, and "try" to come online. But, right now, it appears your commitment to feed your addiction is greater than your "try's " to stop this cancer that is raging inside of you. You have got to want this so bad, as if you're life is depends upon it-and the reality is.......it does!
I'm certain Cathy, that your time will come. We'll be here for you when the time comes that you decide to fully equip your arsenal and use every weapon in your power to kick this bastard to the curb!
My prayers are with both you and your sister, my friend.
Love Tagg
The difference is this...your form of cancer can be fully arrested
I will pray for you.
