Artwork of any kind relieved the anxiety I got when I first quit, even coloring in a coloring book could help me through an urge to gamble. Relaxation tapes also really helped. For me, I needed to do internal work to feel more loving toward myself, I got counseling, so that now I am comfortable alone and take better care of myself in terms of eating right, sleeping enough, having social contact and having alone time. I will seek a balance in all of that for the rest of my life.
I am more tuned in to world around me and to other people's feelings. I am more in tune to my own feelings throughout the day and more in tune with my body. Today I am grateful to be alive and feel blessed for the support network of friends and family that I have. (I did not feel this way when I was gambling- I was alone, busted and suicidal at the end of my gambling spree.)
Life throws stress-ors at us but I have learned I can cope with them without gambling and I am ahead in the long run.
