I'm thinking of separating from my wife . She doesn't understand how easily stresed I become and how hard it is to fight addiction. We have a young son. I'm wondering if being on my own might aid recovery.

It was in realizing the importance of the connections to people that has helped me gain abstinence. I urge you to look to counseling before you decide to do anything rash. Get your priorities straight - isn't your family one of your values?
Some of us do not get to have a family in the sense that you do -- I would think twice before I would be willing to give up. Doing recovery alone is NOT easier, but is doable. There is not an easy route to recovery.

Hopefully she will support you. That’s a big decision you should think long and hard about. During my dark days of gambling I have had many negative irrational thoughts about my wife thinking I don’t want to be with her.

As we get away from our addiction and build some time up of being abstinent recovery doesn't suck so much.

Your young son needs you and will need you to be completely present mentally and emotionally as he grows. (Regardless of whether you stay with your wife or not.)
I suspect the abstinence you gain the more you will realize the importance of connections.
