I have a question - do you still try to go to GA meetings? I sometimes think I don't need to go, but I have made some friends (I talk/text with them regularly - one is my Facebook friend) and I feel like if I didn't attend, I am not taking full advantage of a path to recovery. Some of the meetings I attend are awesome and every now and then, I go to one that I get annoyed with and it may be just the topic that day or just because I felt it took up too much time...I don't know. Maybe it's my attitude...I have these bad mood swings these days and I can't explain it. I am normally pretty positive, but so much bad has happened lately and I am trying hard to stay upbeat. I just wonder what you are doing as far as sticking with GA program - I still haven't gotten to the point of working the steps. I just attend the meetings and am focusing every ounce of energy on abstaining and not giving into urges because I unfortunately still have them after 87 days :-(

Aw, everybody is different, but yes, I try to go to meetings. I'm actually on the GA conference call right now :) And if you can start the steps, that might help too. They are really awesome, I actually recommend people that don't have an addiction do the 12 steps. Meetings are important though, I really love the call him meeting, Wednesday night. Baby steps sister.

Awesome thoughts as usual, leap- actually participating in our own lives, what a novelty, eh? As I read that, my mind leapt to all the mind numbing hours and days wasted gambling and ignoring so many people and so many opportunities to REALLY enjoy myself and my life. Although life has it's ups and downs, a bad day without a bet is better than any day with one, in my humble opinion.

As for GA meetings, there's a saying you've probably heard: I go to meetings to find out what happens when you don't go to meetings. The first time I heard that I wasn't sure how to take it- just another saying, a little cold hearted, perhaps, brilliant- all the above??? As I approach 20 months, I can certainly see it is unfortunately very true. Having said that, I did pare down my meetings- I used to go to 3 per week, now I've decided to dedicate myself to 2 per week- my "home" room and my 2nd home room, so to speak. The "home" room is Thursday nights and frankly, it's pretty damn tough going week in and week out some nights, but, for me, it's crucial to keep that commitment and to keep the reason I went in the first place fresh in my mind, not to mention that I paid a pretty huge price for my seat, so I ought to use it.
