Compulsive gambling is an urge or addiction to gamble despite harmful negative consequences or a desire to stop. A preferred term among many professionals is problem gambling, as few people described by the term experience true compulsions in the clinical sense of the word. Problem gambling often is defined by whether harm is experienced by the gambler or others rather...

I have been on this roller coaster for too long....first it was fun, I even toy with it going into a casino thinking I will just get back then leave....play all sorts of mind games to justify my thinking, but as always, when I get too deep its all over, chasing the money thinking I need more money to make my cash back....well I'm at a point where I think I've had enough....I'm damn mad at myself mostly. I'm trying to find any defense for myself right now to not go back. Getting back into running and trying to get healthy thinking that if I do this, my mind will follow. I just want to feel normal once again and not on the edge. I am trying not to think about the money that I have borrowed and borrowed against.
There is a book that I am reading right now that I find very interesting and I've found it online from searching several sites about gambling addiction and want to share, "she bets her life"
I wish everyone here the path to recovery....its not easy, but I think we have to push on and get so mad that we have to fight back this insanity....

Great advice Sparrow! I am so tired of slipping and I am finally feeling like I am strong enough to stay away from the Casino. Of course it took some major life events to kick me in the head to realize this but.... I hope I can stick to it. I really know in my heart that gambling ( for me it's slots ) is a losing proposition that I will never win and I play back everything! I cannot gamble just a little like my friend wishes I could. ( I pretend I do) You know, sneaking more money here and there. It's just sick! I need to be done with this crazy stuff! I want my life back and I need to take it back. The only way to do that is to stay out of the Casino for good. I'm going to do everything I can to make this work for me. The urges are overwhelming at times and I can't believe how my mind jumps to a plan to gamble so quickly. I need to literally stop myself and say NO! I can see this is a fight I will be fighting for the rest of my life. I quit drinking 22 years ago and have not slipped once. I was a daily drinker and an alcoholic. For whatever reason I found quitting alcohol easier. I don't know why. I was ( am ) a responsible person before I started gambling and my credit was very good. Now I can't get a loan for a car or even a checking account. I am starting over and It's OK.... I can do it. " One day at a time"

Cherbear, I can tell you are a warrior!! You have fought some demons as I have in the past (drinking might have taken me for awhile there too!) I left a bad marriage with an alcoholic then thought my worries were over, but found myself trying to destroy myself one way or the other....going towards really bad relationships and drinking myself, then the tendancies to gamble and lose myself....I think of all the wasted time going to casinos and drinking and forgetting everything! Its time my friend for both of us to stay on track, we deserve to have our life back!

welcome aboard sparrow you are in the right place! we are all sick of this insanity! i had a bad day thinking of all the damage i have done over the last year. i have been on this roller coaster for almost half of my life. its downright sickening to think of all the time and $ wasted. i only been gamble free for 18 days after bottoming out yet again at casino. since i joined this site i have had a renewed energy to quit for good. there are alot of really smart friends i made that fully understand this gambling demon. getting back into running is a great idea i have started getting to the gym almost everyday also. physical activity makes ya feel better and at least get your mind off things. i wish you the best in your path to recovery!
