My steps in recovering from my addiction....
I need to gamble,
I know I shouldn't,
I am going to quit,
I am quiting,
I quit,
I know I can't do it but I still want to,
I feel good to have quit,
My world in not my addiction and it is beautiful again...
One of the beautiful things is that maybe just maybe I can give someone who is also struggling a hand to help them start, restart or continue down this hard road to recovery...My forever goal is that, just for today I will not gamble and it will be my goal for tomorrow but today is the most important day........build a hedge around today with God's help...be strong just for today...One today at a time
A little update....Is it just me or for is it for some reason when you are struggling with an addiction you keep to the shadows...I for sure didn't want my unsuspecting friends to know that I had a gambling problem and to be honest I hide it from myself...It was easier to continue to feed the gambling demon than face it...It finally got to the point where I couldn't continue down that destructive path...It wasn't by accident I chose my username of Sickofmyself..Guess we all need to really reach that point where the pain is worse than really bringing our problem into the light and out of the shadows...believe I will stay in the LIGHT today
It’s hard to open up to others that we have an actual addiction, and it’s an addiction that’s easy to hide it. There is a stigma attached to the title of an addict, mostly due to a lack of understanding, I believe. In many cases I have found that unless you truly understand addiction it’s a hard topic for some people to discuss. It’s not that they don’t want to help, I think they think of it as a lack of willpower, which it is not. But for the most part I don’t talk to others about my addiction, it’s just easier for me. One funny thing, not haha funny, is that I’ve starting thinking people with money problems are all complusive gamblers, which isn’t true, I’m sure. Some might just overspend, huh?
