Compulsive gambling is an urge or addiction to gamble despite harmful negative consequences or a desire to stop. A preferred term among many professionals is problem gambling, as few people described by the term experience true compulsions in the clinical sense of the word. Problem gambling often is defined by whether harm is experienced by the gambler or others rather...
Nice post, makes me feel hopeful for new beginnings. When I think about gambling it sure takes me to a really dark place....I just hope the feelings last! I think there is hope, we just need to reprogram and find a new passion....I started exercising and running too and its sort of clears my head and when running I think, "WTF was I thinking!"
Wow we've made it into one more month! I am looking forward to spring this year. I've had a huge garden box ready for the past 3 years. There's still no dirt in it. This year my hope is to spend the energy that I used to use gambling, by working in my new garden. It will give me a huge sense of renewal. It's an awesome feeling to finally have a purpose to my life again. I am very proud of you because you've come so far!!

Like you DS became an addiction for me, but a heck of a lot less expensive, and it doesn't leave me feeling suicidal!
For February being a short month there was sure a lot packed into it.
I was very disheartened by some goings on of last weekend.
I haven't been on the boards lately because two of my super good friends from life and GA went out last weekend.
I have been majorly bummed, and just felt like -wow, I really don't know. I tried to talk them out of it. I offered to go with (I know it was stupid, but it's true). I said let's go to a movie, or shoot some pool, or go bowling. She said she decided to go shopping. She would have had 6 months on March 8th.
It just makes me feel sad and bad and yes, quite disheartened. I have still been coming to DS every day and I read all that everybody writes. I just have not much confidence in my ability to convey anything worth listening to.
My favorite saying is This Too Shall Pass. -Well I'm ready for it, lol.
Don't mean to be a downer. Just wanted to share.
Congratulations to everybody that has a great gamble-free day.
Today I will not gamble. Who's with me?
Love to all ~atticus
One thing that has helped these past two weeks has been cooking more. I used to love to cook and bake and in the past few years the meals I put on the table have been very lackluster, and I feel bad for my husband since he loves my cooking! I've started digging thru cookbooks again, trying new experiments, and spending the time that I used to spend on a weekend at the casino actually in the kitchen putting together a homemade soup or lasagna. Turning up the stereo, dancing around the kitchen and chopping vegetables has become therapeutic!
